On 1 July 2021 at 10.00 am at Phuket checkpoint, Tha Chat Chai checkpoint at Mai Khao Subdistrict, Muang District, Phuket Province, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Minister of Tourism and Sports, Mr. Napintorn Srisunpang, Vice Minister for Tourism and Sports, Mr. Khemmapol Auitayakul, Secretary to the Minister of Tourism and Sports, and Mr. Chote Trachu, Permanent Secretary of Ministry Of Tourism and Sports, joined the Cabinet entourage led by General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of Thailand and Minister of Defence to perform an inspection of Tha Chat Chai checkpoint to ensure that the checkpoint is ready to welcome foreign tourists in line with the Phuket Sandbox project. Mr. Narong Woonciew, Governor of Phuket Province, along with related agencies, presented measures to ensure the readiness of the checkpoint and methods to screen tourists passing through to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
          The prime minister thanked all officials, citizens, soldiers, the police force, and health volunteers for performing the duty of screening Thai and foreign tourists who will be arriving in Phuket through both existing and new checkpoints. He stated that officials must ensure that tourists possess the correct documents with accurate data, which requires good management and various procedure, the cooperation of all stakeholders, as well as efficient communication so that tourists are aware of and understand every system involved in the process. Moreover, the premier added that officials should maintain the cleanliness of the checkpoint and manage plastic waste correctly so that tourists to the kingdom will have a good impression. He also thanked health volunteers and officials at the checkpoint for performing their duties to the best of their capability amidst the spread of the COVID-19 virus which seems to be ongoing, as medical personnel are an important force to take care of the general public and monitor foreign tourists who will be entering the country in the Phuket Sandbox. Phuket, as the pilot province for welcoming tourists to the nation, has prepared Tha Chat Chai checkpoint in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in line with the target to reopen the nation's borders to allow the tourism industry in Thailand to return to serve as a key driver to return to being an important driver of continuous growth for economic and social development in the nation.
          The prime minister concluded that the success of the project required the understanding and cooperation of all stakeholders. He wished for everyone to stay safe and join hands to revive the country's tourism industry together.
