On 5th June 2021, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Minister of Tourism and Sports, Mr. Khemmapol Auitayakul, Secretary to the Minister of Tourism and Sports, Mr. Chote Trachu, Permanent Secretary of Ministry Of Tourism and Sports and Mr. Anan Wongbenjarat, Director General for Department of Tourism met with representatives from travel agency My Journey Travel Company Limited, to discuss "Vaccine Tourism", in the Ministerial Meeting Room, Floor 2, Ministry of Tourism and Sports.
After the meeting, Mr. Anan, Director General for Department of Tourism, revealed that "travel agencies selling tours that provide vaccination against COVID-19 in foreign countries - known as "Vaccine Tourism" - offer various tourist attractions but grab people attention by taking them to get vaccinated against COVID-19. This type of tour program is becoming increasingly prevalent and the main target group is people with high purchasing power who can afford to travel to foreign countries to get vaccinated. However, the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak makes traveling abroad more complicated as we have to comply with the measures laid down by the Thai government and the requirements of the destination country".
"Those who wish to travel on this kind of tour must comply with the Tourism Business and Guide Act B.E. 2551 and the Amendment (No. 2) B.E. 2559 (2016). In addition, travel agencies should study details of the various measures involved when entering the destination countries during the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, including quarantine procedures, travel restrictions, conditions to receiving the vaccination in such countries and the consequences that might occur after vaccination", said the Director-General of the Department of Tourism.
