On 7th May 2021 at 1:30 p.m. Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Health, chaired a meeting of the National Tourism Policy Committee No. 2/2021 via Video Conference (Zoom), with Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Minister of Tourism and Sports, Mr. Khemmapol Auitayakul, Secretary to the Minister of Tourism and Sports, and Mr. Chote Trachu, Permanent Secretary of Ministry Of Tourism and Sports and Ministry executives, in meeting room 1, floor 2. The National Tourism Board also joined the meeting through the Video Conference.
Matters for consideration as follows
1. Guidelines for opening the country in order to drive the tourism economy (proposed by Office of the Permanent Secretary for Tourism and Sports)
2. The promotion of vaccination against the spread of the COVID-19 virus for personnel in the Thai tourism industry (proposed by TAT)
3. The No.1/ 2021 "AMAZING THAILAND WORLD MOUNTAIN & TRAIL RUNNING CHAMPIONSHIPS 2021" (WMTRC 2021), at Doi Suthep, Muang District, Chiang Mai (proposed by TAT)
4. The draft announcement from the National Tourism Policy Commission on criteria, appointment methods, and the tourism development committee meeting of the Tourism Development Area, 2021 (proposed by Strategy and Planning Division, Office of the Permanent Secretary for Tourism and Sports)
Mr. Anutin said that after two rounds of COVID-19 outbreaks, the tourism industry remains seriously sluggish. The relevant agencies emphasized the need to accelerate the recovery of tourism after the COVID-19 epidemic has been resolved, in order to attract foreign tourists to Thailand as soon as possible, as well as encouraging tourism within Thailand. From the beginning of June, there will be enough vaccines available for both Thai and foreigners residing in the country. It is expected that Thailand will then be able to control the epidemic more effectively, building the confidence of both tourists and Thais, encouraging travel, and certainly, generating money for the tourism industry.
