On 9th June19 2021 at 10.00 a.m. in meeting room 201, Vayupak Convention Center Government Complex Chaengwattana road, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Minister of Tourism and Sports, presided over the opening remarks and gave a special lecture in the seminar to upgrade tourist attractions to become safe tourist destinations in preparation for opening the country to tourists. The seminar was held in the form of a Virtual Seminar online via the ZOOM system. Mr. Phiphat was joined by Mr. Khemmapol Auitayakul, Secretary to the Minister of Tourism and Sports, Mr. Anan Wongbenjarat, Director General for Department of Tourism, executives and over 900 webinars attendees.
Mr. Phiphat said that the Department of Tourism, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, organized the online seminar to upgrade tourist attractions to become safe tourist destinations, with more than 900 participants from all over the country.
First of all, thank you to the prototypes from five regions which include tourist destinations:
- Nan municipality: Nan natural tourism areas- Bangsaen, Chonburi: man-made tourist areas- Asiatique the Riverfront, Bangkok: community tourism area- Baan Rai Kong Khing, Chiang Mai- tourist areas in Chinatown, Bangkok.
All 5 areas have cooperated with the Department of Tourism, Ministry of Tourism and Sports in planning and establishing safety and hygiene guidelines to provide a model for various types of tourism destination across the country that can be adapted to develop and upgrade their tourist attractions to be safe zones for tourists (Safety Zone).
This seminar is a great opportunity during the time we are unable to open the country; everyone, as hosts in various tourism destinations, must be prepared to understand how to develop and upgrade their tourism destinations to become safe places for tourists (Safety Zone), like the 5 prototype areas.
Due to the COVID-19 situation, the behavior of tourists has changed and we must focus more on hygiene and safety. Also, fairness, service and management in the tourist destinations must be taken into account to ensure we are able to respond to the changing behavior of tourists and be in line with the new ways of tourism (New Normal). All elements are necessary for developing and upgrading the tourism areas. All destinations must be adapted to suit their own areas in preparation for welcoming tourists from all over the world as the country begins to open up in the near future.
